The Nencki Institute invites candidates for the Group Leader positions

The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw seeks to appoint group leaders to develop ambitious and innovative research programs. We are looking for dynamic and highly motivated scientists who have completed at least three years of post-doctoral training, have demonstrated outstanding scientific achievements, and are ready to start their independent careers. The candidates should provide their potential research interests that should fall within the Nencki Institute's research fields. Multiple positions are available.

We offer employment in the leading Polish research institution in life sciences, recognized internationally and located on the largest Polish biomedical research campus in one of the most vibrant cities of Europe. The Nencki Institute, located in Warsaw, is active in basic and translational research in the areas of civilization diseases, including cancer, metabolic disorders and brain diseases, neurophysiology and neural plasticity, cell signaling, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics.

The initial fixed-term 5-year positions will be offered (a full-time contract  employment with social benefits), with the possibility of obtaining tenure at the Nencki Institute upon successful review. The group leaders will have full freedom to develop their own scientific projects and responsibility for forming and leading an independent research group. Appointments will include start-up funds and access to state-of-the-art research facilities and infrastructure. We offer support in applying for national and international grants, access to the interdisciplinary PhD program of the Nencki Institute (Warsaw-4-PhD), administrative support as well as friendly and inclusive working environments.

 

Successful candidates are expected to:

  • hold a doctorate or medical degree in a relevant discipline
  • demonstrate outstanding research achievements
  • present plans for an ambitious and competitive research program, which should show the potential synergy / relation with the Nencki Institute's research fields
  • possess the leadership skills required to direct an independent research group
  • exhibit openness to internal and external collaborations

  • up to three experimental publications (pdf) with a brief explanation of their significance and the candidate’s contribution
  • description of research interests and future research plans (max. 3 pages)

The International Recruitment Committee, established by the Director of the Nencki Institute, will conduct the selection process.

Shortlisted candidates selected for personal interviews are expected to be notified in mid-October. Interviews will take place at the Nencki Institute on November 14-15, 2024. The recruitment results will be announced till December  15, 2024.
