Nencki Institute Seminar

Dear All,

On Thursday 03.10 we will host dr Agnieszka Łukomska from the Laboratory of Regenerative Biology, Warsaw Medical University. Her lecture will be entitled: "Novel factors in axon regeneration after optic nerve crush".

Abstract

Central nervous system (CNS) projection neurons, such as retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), have limited regenerative capacity after injury, resulting in irreversible functional loss and subsequent neuronal death. RGCs are responsible for relaying visual information to the brain through the optic nerve. Disruption of RGC axons in the optic nerve, whether by stroke or traumatic injury, results in blindness and progressive RGC death. While modest regeneration of CNS axons has been achieved by manipulating neuronal intrinsic and extrinsic factors, the failure of RGCs and other CNS long-projecting axons to regenerate after injury remains a major unmet challenge.

The lecture will take place at 3 p.m. in the CN lecture hall and it will be followed by a get together.

Hope to see you all there,

Tomasz Wypych
