The invention concerns synthetic peptides, compositions and methods of use for treating tumors infiltrated with macrophages, such as glioblastomas. Peptides target osteopontin (SPP1, OPN) protein. In orthotopic human U87-MG glioma model in nude mice, animals administered with this peptide had statistically significantly smaller tumours than mice that received the control peptide.  Peptides are water soluble, non-toxic and safe and effectively stop immunosupresive communication between the tumour and immune cells. This shows a potential to use peptides in "cold" tumors, which are not responsive to current immunotherapies.
