Coffee with TTO

Types of research: BASIC, APPLIED or maybe it’s R&D?

24 February 2026 | 11:00 am (CEST) | Exhibition Hall

More and more grants require applicational/translational or even R&D-focused studies. What does it mean? Is my research translational? Am I doing R&D? Let us answer these questions and guide you through differences in types of research, which may help you in finding the right new grants and preparing appropriate content for the applications.

Join us for a “Coffee with TTO”, an informal discussion with external experts on topics that matter to researchers. This time our guest will be dr Marcelina Firkowska, Head of the Academic Entrepreneurship Team and Project Manager at the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). She holds a Ph.D. in neurobiology, has experience as an active researcher, and now specializes in intellectual property management, evaluating translational projects, and supporting the commercialization of scientific research.

We will try to answer all the questions you may have in the subject over a Coffee with TTO.

Please note that this time the meeting will be held in Polish due to references to Polish regulations and official definitions in Polish grants.
