The Nencki Institute is participating in the implementation of the innovative project “G4PL – Genomics for Poland” which has received funding from the European Funds for a Smart Economy (FENG) Program.
The project is being carried out by a consortium of twelve research units coordinated by the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan. The Project Leader is Dr. Luiza Handschuh, Prof. ICHB PAN.
The aim of the G4PL Project is to establish a nationwide network of genomic laboratories equipped with advanced instrumentation, including high-throughput sequencers and devices for optical genome mapping, conducting research and providing specialized services for scientific institutions, business entities, and healthcare institutions. The network will support the development of personalized medicine, precision diagnostics, and innovative therapeutic and preventive strategies.
It is planned to sequence samples from 6,000–7,000 donors, some of whom will be included in the European project “Genome of Europe (GoE)” . The Project also envisages the collection of new genome datasets, including those from patients with rare diseases; the sharing of data in a nationwide repository; and the development of bioinformatics tools using artificial intelligence algorithms and quantum technologies.
As part of the project, the Nencki Institute carries out research and service tasks, including the development of sequencing methods, the analysis of genomic data, and the exploration of their potential application in studies of the mechanisms of civilization-related diseases.
Project value: PLN 248,337,770.24.
Project funding: PLN 180,481,656.59.
Value of the component implemented by the Nencki Institute: PLN 27,738,018.93.
