On June 12, 2025, the Nencki Institute held its annual Science Picnic. This year’s edition was unique, as for the first time the event took place outside Warsaw — on the Nencki Institute Campus in Mikołajki.
The event was part of a two-day celebration marking the official opening of the BioPixel National Center for Bioimaging, providing participants with an exceptional opportunity to explore the Center’s newly established, state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
The scientific session featured the following presentations:
-
Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń (Nencki Institute, PAS): BioPixel National Center for Bioimaging: How the vision becames a reality"
-
Prof. Marcin Drąg (Laboratory of Chemical Biology for Biological and Medical Applications, Institute of Physical Chemistry, PAS): “BioPixel Center – National Center for Bioimaging: Bridging Science and Business: Unlocking Innovation Value”
-
Dr Tomasz Janecki (Nencki Institute, PAS): “History of the Nencki Institute Research Station in Mikołajki”
As part of the ceremony, Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, Director of the Nencki Institute, presented the Jan Dembowski Award for the Popularization of Science. The 2025 laureate was Dr Tomasz Janecki, Head of the Field Research Station in Mikołajki.
The formal program was followed by a networking boat cruise on Lake Mikołajskie. The day concluded with an informal social gathering featuring a lakeside barbecue and shanty singing in the picturesque setting of the Masurian lakes.
