On Thursday (26.03) we will host Prof. Lars Jansen (ept. of Biochemistry, University of Oxford). His lecture will be entitled: "Remembering past infections through epigenetic transcriptional memory". The lecture will take place at 3 p.m. in the CN lecture hall and it will be followed by a get together.

Abstract:

Lars' research explores how cells maintain their identity across generations by focusing on two key epigenetic mechanisms: centromere inheritance and transcriptional memory. He investigates how specific proteins act as "bookmarks" on chromosomes to ensure their correct segregation in cell division and how the cells remember past environmental triggers (on which we collaborate together). By bridging these two areas, his work reveals how stable protein signatures on chromatin govern right distribution of chromosomes and the long-term patterns of gene expression.

Lars E.T. Jansen is a Professor of Molecular Genetics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow at St Edmund Hall. Before joining Oxford in 2018, he pursued his role as a principal investigator at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in Portugal, following postdoctoral research at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. He is a recipient of, e.g. competitive 7-year long Senior Research Fellowship (Wellcome Trust) and Consolidator Grant (ERC).
