(AGH University of Cracow, Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, Department of Medical Physics and Biophysics/Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences). His habilitation is processed by the Scientific Council of the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology. He will give a lecture entitled: "Quantitative bioimaging at cellular and subcellular level"

Abstract:

Quantitative bioimaging combines a variety of experimental biological procedures, physical (optical, spectroscopic) and chemical, along with computational and theoretical methods, involving signal processing and mathematical modeling. Such interdisciplinary approach is necessary to perform, for example, a morphometric characterization of observed cells or subcellular structures, or estimation of parameters of optimal conditions for imaging processes. The presented talk is primarily focused on classification and morphometric quantification of cellular and subcellular architecture. The development of algorithms for segmentation and morphometric quantification of the structures is discussed. The developed methods have been used in studies of synaptic plasticity processes with imaging of dendritic spines, remodeling of neuronal nuclei architecture, and imaging of chromatin spatial structure.
