A PhD student from the Laboratory of Biochemistry of Lipids, Łukasz Bożycki, has won an award in an international photo competition Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 (WPY 2014) which was organized by the BBC and the Natural History Museum (NHM) in London.

His work "Domowik, guardian spirit of the house ', represents a red-haired bat in a destroyed bunker from the Second World War, the picture was commissioned by National Geographic Poland. Łukasz Bożycki has covered more than 60 thousand submitted pictures from around the world. Photography as part of the exhibition will visit 6 continents, including more than 100 countries worldwide. The receiving of awards will take place at a special ceremony following the competition,on the 21st October 2014 at the headquarters of the Natural History Museum in London.

Last year, Luke Bożycki’s image entitled "Beelzebub from hell" of a toad during spawning won an award in the category of animal portraits in the previous edition. Another photograph titled "Żabowisko" presenting a frog swamp during mating season won the Grand Prix prize and the title of the Image of the Year 2013 International Federation of Wildlife and nature Photography (IFWP).  Last year's work which won an award is the "Mother of all evil" depicting a spider, garden spider in the network, in a competition organized by the German Society for Nature Photography (Gesellschaft Deutscher Tierfotografen-GDT).

In the winning photo, Łukasz dedicates the memory of Peter "Sphinx" Tomasik who died tragically during a joint photographic expedition to the bats.
