On March 10th, 2020, The President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda has given the title of professor of natural sciences to dr hab. Jakub Wlodarczyk from the Nencki Institute.

The Laboratory of Cell Biophysics, led by Prof. Wlodarczyk, studies structural and functional synaptic plasticity. They focus on aberrant synaptic plasticity associated with neuropsychiatric diseases such as depression. In particular, they work on the role of serotonin signalling and S-palmitoylation of synaptic proteins in the etiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. They develop novel methods for the analysis of structural plasticity and posttranslational modifications of synaptic proteins.
