The third edition of Art & Science in the Nencki Institute

On 13th January 2020, in the Exhibition Room of the Neurobiology Centre of the Nencki Institute, the opening of the Art & Science: "The Power of Biological Structures" exhibition took place. This is the third edition of the Art & Science project, which initiates the interaction of molecular biologists and artists. Presented works were created during the scientific-artistic symposium and workshops, which took place in Przeworsk from 28th April to 5th May 2019.

The vernissage was opened by Hanna Fabczak, President of the Board of the Marceli Nencki Foundation for the Support of Biological Sciences, welcoming guests and thanking Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, Director of the Nencki Institute, for supporting the Art & Science projects. Thanks for participation in the project were also addressed to the staff of the Institute of Art at the University of Rzeszów, Prof. Marek Olszyński, Dr. Kamila Bednarska, and Dr. Magdalena Uchman, co-organizers of the Przeworsk Symposium, and Prof. Mirosław Pawłowski, author of the exhibition catalogue, Prof. Adam Szewczyk, the initiator of Art & Science projects at the Nencki Institute. The vernissage, which was attended by several dozen people, was honoured by the presence of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jerzy Duszyński, and the President of the Polish Biochemical Society, Prof. Andrzej Legocki, among others. The vernissage was also attended by Dr. Robert Rabiej from the Institute of Art of the Faculty of Arts of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, and Magdalena Zawadzka from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

The exhibition presented at the vernissage consists of over 40 works by employees, students, and graduates, of the Institute of Art at the University of Rzeszów, the Academy of Art in Szczecin, the Faculty of Art of the Institute of Fine Arts at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the Jan Długosz Academy in Częstochowa. Some of the presented works will go to the Nencki Art Collection, a collection of contemporary art of the Institute of Nencki PAN.

The exhibition can be seen in the Institute of Nencki PAN until 3rd February, and then in Rzeszów and Szczecin
