On April 14, 2025, the Nencki Institute hosted Prof. Fiona M. Watt, Director of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and a distinguished researcher in cell biology.
During her visit, Prof. Watt met with the Institute's Director, Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, and members of the group working on the EMERALD Project (European Molecular Biology Laboratory and Nencki Research Alliance for Life Discoveries), under the special assignment of the Minister of Science. The discussions focused on implementing the project's goals—enhancing Poland's presence in EMBL and EMBC, particularly in the context of plans to establish a new EMBL site at the Nencki Institute.
Prof. Watt also delivered a lecture entitled "Exploring cellular heterogeneity in human skin", which was followed by an EMBO information session: "Funding opportunities for life scientists in Poland", presenting available EMBO funding schemes that support scientific career development.
In addition to Prof. Watt, the session featured presentations from Prof. Joanna Sułkowska (University of Warsaw, former EMBO Installation Grantee and EMBO Young Investigator) and Dr. Mikołaj Dziurzyński (University of Warsaw, former EMBO Postdoctoral Fellow), who shared their personal experiences with EMBO programmes.
The event concluded with an informal networking session with EMBO Members and participants of the Young Investigator Network, which took place in the Nencki Institute's exhibition hall.
