Visit of the German Ambassador to the Nencki Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences

On November 24, the Nencki Institute hosted the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Miguel Berger, accompanied by Dr. Monika Schidorowitz, Head of the Science and Research Section at the German Embassy.

Representing the Institute at the meeting were: Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń – Director of the Institute, Prof. Krzysztof Nieznański – Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Aleksandra Pękowska – Head of the Dioscuri Centre for Chromatin Biology and Epigenomics, and Prof. Grzegorz Sumara – Head of the Dioscuri Centre for Metabolic Diseases.

During the visit, the scientific activities of the Nencki Institute were presented, including the Mikołajki Campus, home to the National Imaging Research Centre BIOPIXEL, which specializes in cutting-edge imaging techniques in biology and biomedicine. The meeting also showcased research conducted at the Institute’s Dioscuri Centres – the Dioscuri Centre for Chromatin Biology and Epigenomics and the Dioscuri Centre for Metabolic Diseases. Guests were given a tour of both laboratories. The Dioscuri program is jointly managed and funded by Poland and Germany. It supports the development of young, outstanding scientists and enables them to conduct research at the highest international level. The meeting emphasized the importance of international partnerships in advancing both basic and applied research, as well as the role of the Nencki Institute as one of the leading biological research centers in this part of Europe.

The visit of the German Ambassador was not only a recognition of the achievements of the Institute and its Dioscuri Centres, but also a confirmation that international cooperation in science and research contributes to the development of innovative projects that serve both fundamental and translational research, and ultimately improve public health and quality of life.
