On 26 May 2026, Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, Director of the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS and Prof. Monika Liguz-Lęcznar, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs took part in a joint meeting of the Senate committees on health and the economy. The meeting, organised on the initiative of Senator Agnieszka Gorgoń-Komor, MD, PhD, and Senator Joanna Sekuła, was devoted to the importance of scientific research and innovation for the development of the healthcare system and the economy.
During the meeting, Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń delivered a lecture entitled “The Code of Science: How to Understand Scientific Research in the Context of the Economy”. She also inaugurated the “Quarter of an Hour with Science” series - a new educational project dedicated to communicating the achievements of Polish science and strengthening dialogue between the research community, decision-makers and society.
“I would like to develop an idea for science to appear more often in the Senate, so that we can begin to speak the same language. So that those of you who make financial decisions know what we are working on. Because what we do in Poland in the field of research is, in many cases, at a world-class level, and we will be pleased to show it,” said Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń during the meeting.
One example of the potential of Polish science presented during the meeting was the bionic pancreas project - an innovative solution that may bring a breakthrough in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, which the Institute is developing jointly with Prof. Michał Wszoła, MD, PhD, DSc, with financial support from the National Centre for Research and Development.
The presence of the Nencki Institute at the Senate of the Republic of Poland opens up space for a further, highly important conversation on how to make better use of the potential of Polish research beyond the academic community.
