We invite you to join the next Alumni Talk this semester, organised by the PhD Students’ Council as part of the Nencki Seminars. As part of this series, we meet with Nencki Institute alumni who share their research, experiences and professional journeys from PhD studies to the next stages of their scientific careers.
Our guest will be Dr Julian Swatler, a Nencki Institute alumnus who received an EMBO Fellowship after completing his PhD and is currently conducting postdoctoral research at Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan. His research focuses on regulatory T cells (Tregs), which play an essential role in maintaining immune tolerance but can also help tumours evade immune system control. During his seminar, entitled “From fundamental to translational science, my journey with regulatory T cells”, he will present his research on the heterogeneity, origin and function of these cells in solid tumours, as well as the molecular mechanisms and tumour microenvironmental factors that influence their activity and stability. He will also discuss how fundamental research can contribute to medical advances and share his experience of transitioning from a PhD in Poland to a scientific career abroad.
The lecture will take place at 3 p.m. in the CN lecture hall
