Night of Falling Stars 2026

On August 12, the Night of Falling Stars took place at the campus of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW). The event was co-organized by the Nencki Institute PhD Students’ Council, together with PhD student councils from universities and research institutes across Warsaw.

The evening began with a popular science lecture dedicated to the Perseids, space, and observing the night sky, delivered in both Polish and English. Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to observe the night sky and the Perseid meteor shower at its peak. There were also plenty of additional attractions, including glowing algae, a barbecue, sweet treats, and, above all, plenty of time for conversations, meeting new people, and socializing.

Thanks to this joint initiative, PhD students from the Nencki Institute had the opportunity to meet young researchers representing different universities, research institutes, and scientific disciplines. It was a great opportunity not only to spend a summer evening together, but also to make new connections and exchange experiences beyond the walls of our own institutions.

Special thanks go to the SGGW PhD Students’ Council and the PhD student councils of UKSW, Warsaw University of Technology, University of Warsaw, SGH, IBB PAS, and IChF PAS for their involvement in organizing the event, as well as to Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University for providing the campus space and creating ideal conditions for observing the night sky together.

We would also like to thank our sponsors, Sokołów and Colian, for supporting the event and providing the barbecue and sweet treats for the participants.

We are happy to have shared this special night together and hope that the Night of Falling Stars will be the beginning of many more initiatives bringing the PhD community together!
