International Conference on Bioscience of Lipids (ICBL) for the first time in Poland

The ICBL, organized every year since 1959, for the first time was held in Poland. The Conference was organized by prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń form the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology and prof. Ewa Swieżewska from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, who are members of ICBL Steering Committee. Other Nencki scientists actively involved in organizing the Conference were prof. Joanna Bandorowicz-Pikuła, dr Paweł Dobrzyń and all members of Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Metabolic Disorders. Prof. Jolanta Barańska was an Honorary Member of ICBL Organizing Committee.

At the conference, 160 scientists from all over the world discussed the most recent data on pathogenesis of metabolic disorders, lipids in regulation of gene expression, lipid-protein interactions and lipidomics. Van Deenen lecture has been given by prof. Peter Quinn form King’s Collage, London. The ICBL’2011 programme included 23 plenary lectures and 34 short oral presentations. Over 80 posters were displayed during the poster sessions. Two Young Speaker Award was elected by editors-in-chief of Journal of Biological Chemistry and Progress in Lipid Research, who participated in the conference. Conference materials were published in the Chemistry and Physics of Lipids. Special editions of Molecular Membrane Biology will also be printed.
