The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS is seeking a candidate for the position of: Postdoctoral Researcher at Laboratory of Neuroinformatics

Number of available positions: 1

Place of work: Laboratory of Neuroinformatics

Researcher career profiles (R1-R4): R2/R3

Field of science: interdisciplinary project – physics / computer science / biology

Type of recruitment: WEAVE (GACR+NCN+DFG)

“EEG/ECoG based functional connectivity neuroimaging in the rat – optimization, standardisation and translational leap in neuropsychopharmacology”

Requirements:

  • PhD, preferred in physical sciences or engineering, physics, applied math or related,
  • strong motivation for research, interest in application of computational sciences to biology and medicine,
  • good command of written and spoken English,
  • documented programming experience, Python preferred. You can link your github page, send in previous projects or solutions to selected tasks from https://neuroinflab.wordpress.com/tasks/
  • desired experience with numerical solutions of partial differential equations (especially FEM), familiarity with machine learning (especially kernel techniques), knowledge of good programming practice, experience in signal analysis.

Project description:

The main goals of the project are 1. to develop a novel flexible implant based on solution from the German partner for recording EEG/ECoG data in the rat on standardized electrode grids (similar to the 10-20 EEG system in humans), 2. to use this implant in experiments on behaving animals to standardize research in neuropsychopharmacology, 3. to develop new methods for analyzing such data and use them to analyze the collected data. Ultimately, we want to achieve standardization of EEG-based functional connectivity analysis in rats, increase throughput and maximize the amount of data collected (and thus minimize the number of animals needed). More information available upon request.

Scope of tasks:

  • maintenance and further development of tools for reconstruction of sources of electrical activity in the brain (kESI-python toolbox),
  • development and implementation of methods of functional analysis of brain activity based on recorded signals and reconstructed sources, with emphasis on rat and human data,
  • analysis of data harvested by partners,
  • participation in Laboratory of Neuroinformatics meetings,
  • other tasks related to the implementation of the project WEAVE.

Employment conditions:

  • full-time position under NCN regulations,
  • duration of contract: 36 months,
  • position starts on: Oct. 1, 2023 or later, or when filled,
  • salary: approx. 6700 PLN net,
  • we offer ample opportunities for professional development, participation in grant meetings, scientific conferences and directional trainings,
  • additional benefits: medical insurance, sports card, social fund.

Application procedure and deadline:

The documents should be sent to: postdoc@nencki.edu.pl with cc to d.wojcik@nencki.edu.pl with note ‘Postdoctoral Researcher DW’ in the subject.

Position is open until filled. Selected candidates will be invited for interviews to be held at the Institute headquarters or online.

Required documents:

  • letter of motivation,
  • CV,
  • PhD certificate,
  • email of at least one scientist familiar with the candidate's work, who can give an opinion on the candidate.

You can use the foreign equivalent of a Polish academic degree if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
