Project description:

„Myosin VI as a new regulator of nuclear biomechanics and chromatin organization in skeletal muscle”.

The project aims to determine a novel role for myosin VI (MVI) in the mechanoreception of muscle cell nuclei and chromatin organisation, particularly at the level of epigenetic and transcriptomic changes. Myosin VI is a motor protein involved in, among other processes, myoblast fusion and differentiation, intracellular transport, and cellular metabolism. In recent years, it has also been shown that myosin VI exhibits nuclear functions in various cell types (Gawor and Toseland, J Cell Sci, 2025). Proper cell nuclear shape and mechanical resilience are frequently disrupted in disorders caused by mutations in nuclear proteins. Therefore, our research may provide novel insights with potential significance for understanding the mechanisms underlying these diseases. The project will be carried out at the Nencki Institute PAS in collaboration with research partners from the United Kingdom.

Head of the project: Dr Marta Gawor
