Two Prime Minister’s awards for doctoral students from the Nencki Institute!

The Prime Minister has awarded prizes for the best doctoral dissertations in 2022. The winners from the Nencki Institute were:

Dr. Eng. Patrycja Sokolowska- "Development of a Lab-on-a-chip flow microsystem for the creation and functional analysis of a pancreatic island model under physiological conditions and type 2 diabetes."

Supervisors: Prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń, PhD, DSc (Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Metabolic Disorders, Nencki Institute) and prof. inż. Zbigniew Brzózka, PhD, DSc. (Faculty of Chemistry, Warsaw University of Technology).

The work was carried out as part of the interdisciplinary TriBioChem Doctoral Studies conducted jointly by the Nencki Institute and the Warsaw University of Technology.

Dr. Julian Marek Swatler- "The role of leukemic extracellular vesicles in the differentiation and suppressive activity of regulatory T cells."

Supervisor: Katarzyna Piwocka, PhD, DSc, Professor of the Nencki Institute (Laboratory of Cytometry, Nencki Institute).

The award to Patrycja Sokolowska, PhD, was given for the innovative development of the first Lab-on-a-chip system in Poland for the culture and analysis of a pancreatic island model. The work of Julian Mark Swatler, PhD, was awarded for identifying a novel mechanism for inducing immunosuppression in myeloid leukemias through leukemic extracellular vesicles.
