Project description: BRAINCITY is a cutting-edge research center formed through a strategic partnership between the Nencki Institute and EMBL, funded by the Foundation for Polish Science. It focuses on neural plasticity and brain disorders, offering a multidisciplinary and translational research approach.

BRAINCITY’s key features:

  • Combines molecular biology (EMBL) and neurobiology (Nencki) expertise
  • Aims to tackle major neurological and psychiatric disorders through the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools
  • Emphasizes the role of brain-environment interaction in neuroplasticity

Main research goals:

  1. Targeted therapies for post-traumatic brain complications
  2. Behavioral testing platform for potential drugs with CNS activity
  3. Treatment methods for motivation disorders
  4. EEG-based tools for neuropsychiatric therapy support

BRAINCITY serves as a unique hub for developing impactful, science-driven solutions to some of the most pressing brain health challenges.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordination of Braincity technology transfer personnel within the Institute’s  Technology Transfer Office
  • Ongoing collaboration with research teams in BRAINCITY and supporting scientists in cooperation with the business environment

Overview on

  • analyzing market landscape for potential solutions and supporting teams in grant application processes regarding the intellectual property protection, market analysis and business development
  • processes needed for obtaining protection of the Institute's intellectual property
  • preparing, analyzing, and negotiating offers and agreements
  • training sessions related to knowledge and technology transfer
  • Participation in scientific and business meetings, trade fairs, and conferences
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with the Institute's partners
  • Building brand awareness and a positive image of the Institute, as well as promoting the Institute among potential partners
  • Maintaining document records in accordance with the procedures and instructions
  • Cooperation with institutions supporting science in Poland and abroad

 

Profile of candidates/requirements:

  • PhD degree, or equivalent, in either one: neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, Biology, chemistry, biotechnology, medicine /, pharmacy, health sciences etc. (optionally, for candidates who, at the time of application, did not complete their PhD studies, please provide the expected date of obtaining PhD degree)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Experience in
    • conducting scientific research within the science and higher education system in Poland
    • implementing scientific research results into practice or the market in the healthcare sector (coordination of at least one process involving the signing of a licensing agreement, sales agreement, or the establishment of a company based on the intellectual property of a scientific institution)
    • intellectual property protection related processes (authorship in at least one patent application or coordination of at least one process of obtaining patent for an invention)
    • drug development/medical devices development and in market analysis and preparing contracts as well as team leadership (at least 1 year of experience in a managerial/executive position or as part of the management staff in a company involved in developing products for healthcare)
    • the clinical development of medicinal products or medical devices (at least 1 year of experience)
    • running incubation/acceleration programs supporting the development of products/services in the healthcare sector (at least 1 year of experience)
  • Independence, responsibility, good work organization and the ability to prioritize tasks, goal orientation, and accuracy in task execution
  • Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Analytical thinking skills and orientation toward internal organizational needs
  • Communication skills and the ability to draft written content
  • Strong interest in neuroscience research and/or analyses of biological data
  • Prior training in neurosciences and broker position within International research Agendas funded by FNP will be considered advantageous
