The event will explore the links between molecular and cellular biology and the visual arts. One of its main themes will be imaging – both as a tool in modern biology and as a source of artistic and conceptual inspiration.

The programme of “Interpretations / Art and science in the face of reality” will include three talks:

• "Different views of the brain – the art of imaging neurons” – Dr hab. Marzena Stefaniuk, Nencki Institute
• “Solastalgia, photosynthesis and the plant darkroom” – Dr Diana Lelonek, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw
• “Interspecies dialogue. How can we discover the more-than-human world?” – Zofia Kwasieborska Keller, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw

The talks will present examples of visual and conceptual inspiration drawn from modern biology, with a particular focus on microscopy. They will also look at what scientists and visual artists can gain from working together on Art & Science projects. The Nencki Institute’s contemporary art collection will also be presented.

The event will end with an exhibition opening featuring works by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, inspired by visits to research laboratories, including the Nencki Institute’s Laboratory of Brain Imaging.
