Project description:

Project title: “Role of lipid metabolism in the long-term effects and transmission of adverse childhood experiences”

Jawaid lab (Laboratory for Translational Research in Neuropsychiatric Disorders; TREND) investigates molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and inheritance of neuropsychiatric disorders with a specific focus on non-coding RNAs and metabolism. This theme is backed by strong clinical and translational research showing a role of circulating microRNAs and lipid metabolites in epigenetic inheritance of the effects of early life trauma (Gapp, Jawaid et al. Nature Neuroscience 2014, Steenwyk et al. EMBO Reports 2020, Jawaid et al. Trends in Genetics 2021).

The proposed project will involve multi-disciplinary research involving analyses of samples collected from human trauma cohorts, as well as stimulation of brain organoids with these samples OR alternately dietary manipulation experiments on mice followed by behavioral and metabolic profiling.

Scope pf tasks:

  • Planning and conducting experimental work using stem cells and brain organoids OR in vivo mouse models,
  • Data analysis,
  • Manuscript preparation,
  • Supervision of PhD students
  • Support the lab operations, including:
  1. Coordination with administration and support staff for lab management.
  2. Documentation and quality control for official procedures in the laboratory.
