The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS is seeking a candidate for the position of: Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Protein Homeostasis
Number of available positions: 1
Place of work: Laboratory of Protein Homeostasis
Researcher career profiles (R1-R4): R2
Field of science: Biology
Type of recruitment: NCN SONATA BIS: Ubiquitin as a modulator of the mitochondrial protein import process
Requirements:
Candidate should hold a PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related field. We seek independence, a creative approach to research problems, good work organization, team collaboration skills, and motivation. Experience in laboratory work is necessary.
Scope of the project:
Protein transport and degradation are vital mechanisms that maintain the homeostasis of the cell. The project investigates how these mechanisms integrate during the biogenesis of mitochondrial proteome. Most mitochondrial proteins are produced in the cytosol and require active transport into the organelle. Such proteins require efficient regulation and quality control before they enter mitochondria. The cytosolic ubiquitin-proteasome system plays such a regulatory role. The project's main objective is to uncover how different proteins directed to mitochondria are affected by ubiquitination. We will identify the factors that regulate this process at the molecular level and reveal their role in physiology and pathology.
The study uses cellular and in-vitro models. You will have the possibility to use human cell lines or yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae cultures and in-vitro approaches, all combined with advanced molecular and cell biology techniques, including mass spectrometry proteomics, FACS, and confocal microscopy.
Key responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Researcher include:
- Designing, performing, and interpreting experiments.
- Active participation in laboratory meetings, scientific seminars, and conferences.
- Data analysis and preparation for publication.
Employment conditions:
Full-time employment contract within an NCN-funded project.
The position is for two years, with a possible extension.
Job starting date: May - August 2023
We offer:
- Participation in an exciting research project
