The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS is seeking a candidate for the position of: Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Protein Homeostasis

Number of available positions: 1

Place of work: Laboratory of Protein Homeostasis

Researcher career profiles: R2-R3
Field of science: Biology

Type of recruitment: NCN SONATA BIS: Ubiquitin as a modulator of the mitochondrial protein import process

Requirements:

Candidate should hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. We require independence, excellent work organization, a creative approach to research problems, team collaboration skills, and motivation. Experience in laboratory work is necessary.

Scope of the project:

Protein transport and degradation are vital mechanisms that maintain the homeostasis of the cell. The project investigates how these mechanisms integrate into the biogenesis of mitochondrial proteins. Most mitochondrial proteins are produced in the cytosol and require active transport into the organelle. Such proteins require efficient regulation and quality control before they enter mitochondria. The cytosolic ubiquitin-proteasome system plays such a regulatory role. The project's main objective is to uncover how different proteins directed to mitochondria are affected by ubiquitination. We will also identify the factors that regulate this process at the molecular level and reveal their role in physiology and pathology.

The study uses cellular and in-vitro models. You will have an opportunity to use human cell cultures, yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and in-vitro protein synthesis, all combined with advanced molecular and cell biology techniques, including mass spectrometry proteomics, FACS, and confocal microscopy.

Key responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Researcher include:

  1. Designing, performing, and interpreting experiments.
  2. Data presentation and preparation for publication.
  3. Active participation in laboratory meetings, scientific seminars, and conferences.

Employment conditions:

Full-time employment contract within an NCN-funded project.

The position is for two years, with a possible extension.

Job starting date: December 2022 – January 2023

Application procedure and deadline:
