Nencki Institute Seminar

Dear All

It is my pleasure to invite you to the next Nencki Institute Seminar which will take place next Thursday, February 9th at 3pm in the CN lecture hall. We will host Dr Wojciech Pokrzywa, head of the Laboratory of Protein Metabolism at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw.

In his work, Dr Pokrzywa addresses one of the essential questions, namely what are the mechanisms that regulate the level proteins in the cell. Likewise, his team defines how defects in the cellular system orchestrating protein abundance may contribute to diseases. Dr Pokrzywa will give a lecture entitled Ubiquitin games: multifaceted regulation of ubiquitin ligases.

Abstract

I will discuss topics related to the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), responsible for degrading damaged and unwanted proteins by attaching ubiquitin to their lysine(s) in a ubiquitination process. I will present our recent findings about the regulation of the activity and specificity of the quality control ubiquitin ligase CHIP. Furthermore, I will introduce our observations regarding the non-canonical regulation of the lysine-deficient proteome by the UPS.

The lecture will be followed by a get togehter.

With best regards,
Aleksandra Pekowska
