Nencki Institute Seminar

Dear All

I would like to invite you to the next Nencki Institute Seminar on the 16th of February at 3 pm in the CN hall.

We will host Dr. Maciej Cieśla, head of the Laboratory of Stem Cell RNA Metabolism at The International Institute of Molecular Mechanisms and Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Dr. Cieśla's work focuses on how mRNA processing (broadly speaking) shapes the level of protein and how it contributes to development and disease.

Dr. Cieśla will give a lecture entitled: Dance of Life. RNA splicing networks in stem cells

Abstract

We are focusing on understanding how stem cell activation is achieved at the level of RNA metabolism. It is our vision that different facets of RNA biology are co- regulated to determine cell fate trajectories during exit from pluripotency or quiescence. Hence, our goal is to understand how macromolecular machineries of splicing, epitranscriptomics and translation functionally sculpt proteome to determine differentiation outcomes and balance health and disease. Particularly, we have previously uncovered a translation-based program that governs abundance of individual splicing factors in response to acute oncogenic stress. Splicing control endows cells with selective alternative splicing patterns and dictates dichotomous cell fate choice between proliferation and initiation. Collectively, we posit that regulatory axis of translation and splicing are an overlooked driver of human malignancies, also critical for stem cell maintenance and tissue regeneration.

The seminar will be followed by a get togehter.

Best regards
Aleksandra Pekowska
