On Thursday 10.04 in the CN lecture hall we will host dr hab. Kinga Kamieniarz-Gdula. Her lecture will be entitled: "Uncoupling of transcription termination and pre mRNA 3’ end processing during cancer progression”. The lecture will take place at 3 p.m. in the CN lecture hall and it will be followed by a get together.

Abstrakt:

Polyadenylation site (PAS) usage and the cellular machinery responsible is modified in many cancers. In particular, two key factors required for pre-mRNA 3’ cleavage and polyadenylation (CPA), CPSF73 and PCF11, have oncogenic properties – their elevated expression is associated with worse patient prognosis. Both proteins also function as transcription termination factors. Termination occurs over a thousand nucleotides downstream of PAS in humans. It is unknown what causes cancer vulnerability to lowering/inhibition of those factors – is it their role in RNA processing or in transcription termination? I will show our lab's progress in tackling this question, bridging the gap in understanding of the role of pre-mRNA 3’ end processing and transcription termination in the evolvement of cancer and providing new directions of molecular studies and therapeutic applications.
