Prof. Mariusz Więckowski, member of the consortium investigating the role of mitochondria in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), among the winners of the UE HORIZON 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks Programme.

In the recent competition „Innovative Training Networks (ETN), Call: H2020-MSCA-ITN-2016” the consortium composed of companies: Mediagnost Gesellschaft fu¨r Forschung und Herstellung von Diagnostika GmbH; CETICS Healthcare Technologies GmbH; APDP – Diabetes Portugal; Seahorse Bioscience Europe Aps and scientific institutions: Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology; Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology in Coimbra; Italian National Research Council (CNR); Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon; Helmholtz Zentrum Mu¨nchen - German Research Center for Enviromental Health; Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona; French National Health and Medical Research Institute (INSERM); the University of Bari Medical School; University of Porto; Institute of Physiology of Czech Academy of Sciences has been awarded. The major aim of the consortium and FOIE GRAS programme is to provide innovative training for 13 early stage researchers (ESRs) and to investigate internal and external mediators of metabolic remodeling, including modified gut-liver crosstalk in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The group of prof. Mariusz Wieckowski will investigate the alterations in mitochondrial metabolism and the presence of oxidative stress during NAFLD.
