On July 20th, 2017, 25 participants of the innovative science camp for talented school children, organized by the Adamed Group Foundation under the Adamed SmartUP program visited the Nencki Institute. The visits to the labs were organized by the Marceli Nencki Foundation for the Biological Sciences Fosterage. The aim was to familiarize young people with the research carried out at the Institute. The program included presentations of:

Laboratory of Cell Signaling and Metabolic Disorders (Katarzyna Kolczyńska) - How does the morphology and function of fat cells (adipocytes) depend on the physiological condition of the fat issue?

Laboratory of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes (Joanna Szczepanowska, Monika Prill, Karolina Drabik, Bernadeta Michalska) - The study of mitochondria in cell physiology.

Laboratory of Imaging Tissue Structure and Function (Małgorzata Całka) - Imaging of cellular structures using confocal fluorescence microscopy and representation of architecture cells / tissues.

Laboratory of Animal Models (Agata Klejman, Natalia Chwin, Artur Janusz) - Characterization of the transgenic mice in terms of cognitive (IntellCage, Skinner box) and metabolic (metabolic cages) research.

Laboratory of Brain Imaging (Anna Antosz, Michał Szczepanik, Dawid Droździel, Łukasz Bola, Jacek Matuszewski, Jan Szczypiński) - The participants will be acquainted with the technique of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

Laboratory of Preclinical Studies in Neurodegenerative Diseases (Grażyna Niewiadomska, Ewelina Pałasz, Radosław Folcik) – Behavioral tests for better understanding of mechanisms stimulating repair mechanisms in aging neurons and for developing methods to reverse pathological changes in aging brain.
