Minister’s Scholarship for Outstanding Young Scientists

Łukasz Bijoch, PhD from the Laboratory of Neuronal Plasticity received a scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists.

This year, scholarships were awarded to 230 scientists representing all scientific and artistic disciplines. Dr. Bijoch was awarded in the field of natural sciences (biological sciences).

Dr. Bijoch’s research focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms of addiction and how psychoactive substances modify brain circuits to hijack behavioral control. In his work, he analyzes pathological plastic changes induced by substances such as cocaine, with a particular focus on the role of the amygdala and dopamine receptors.

His scientific career has been closely associated with the Center of Excellence for Neural Plasticity and Brain Disorders BRAINCITY. He has also gained international research experience through fellowships at The Scripps Research Institute (USA), the University of Oxford, and Academia Sinica in Taiwan. His current research focuses on identifying strategies to reverse the neural changes caused by addiction.
