The Nencki Art Collection includes contemporary art from Nencki Institute. It was established in 2018 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Institute. It contains artwork that is given to the Institute by artists who participate in Art and Science workshops or is donated as gifts to the Institute.

The first Art and Science workshop, “Biological Imaging: Inspirations from the Invisible World,” took place in September 2017 at the Research Station of the Nencki Institute in Mikołajki. Artists from the Faculty of Art of the University of Rzeszow (now the Institute of Fine Arts) and the Faculty of Art of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn participated in the project. The program began with a series of lectures that presented various aspects of biological imaging, which were intended to inspire artists and initiate interactions among modern science and the arts. A week-long period of creative work then began, during which the artists created artistic visions of microscopic images of cellular structures and aquatic microorganisms. The workshop ended with an exhibition that presented the created works. Some of the artwork that was created during the workshops was donated by the artists to Nencki Institute and constituted the foundation of the contemporary Nencki Art Collection.

The second Art and Science project, “Art of Biodiversity,” began in the fall of 2018 in Dylągówka. The third project, “The Power of Biological Structures,” began in the spring of 2019 in Przeworsk. After each of these projects, Nencki Institute's contemporary art collection was enriched with new works. The collection is administered by the Marceli Nencki Foundation for the Support of Biological Sciences.
