During the meeting Sven Muller, PhD (Department of Experimental Clinical and Health Psychology, Ghent University Belgium; LOBI, Nencki Institute, Warsaw, Poland) will present a talk entitled:

“Minority stress experience in transgender people: evidence from a multimodal approach”

Abstract:

People from sexual and ethnic minorities frequently experience stress associated with belonging to a minority group in society. This often leads to poorer mental health and reduced quality of life. While prior work has previously investigated the psychological effects, the neurobiological correlates of minority stress are presently unknown. In this talk I will synthesize data from our recent project in which we aimed to chart minority stress in transgender people using a multimodal approach. To this aim, we acquired data in transgender persons as well as cisgender comparisons from self-report on mental health and resilience as well as evidence from laboratory based social rejection tasks and emotion perception tasks while measuring psychophysiology, functional neuroimaging (fMRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to chart the impact of minority stress on different levels of analysis.
